Jenny Hillier was born Jennifer Buchanan in Falkirk, Scotland, and started dancing at the age of 5. She was a successful Juvenile and Junior competitor, eventually winning the Scottish Amateur Ballroom and Latin American Championships and Scottish 10-Dance Championship.
She was in the semi-finals of all the major Amateur Latin American Championships, including the British Open, International, European and the Worlds.
On turning professional at a young age, her success was in Ballroom. On her first competition as a professional, she was placed into the semi-final of the United Kingdom Open Championships. Later, she was a semi-finalist in all the major Ballroom Championships including the British Open, International, European and the Worlds. She was placed 7th in the World Professional Ballroom Championship in Holland in 1994.

Since retiring from competing, Jennifer has judged many important competitions including the World Professional Latin Championship in 2001 and the World Professional Ballroom Championship in 2007. She is a Fellow of the UKA and a Fellow of the IDTA in Ballroom and Latin American. Jennifer was a consultant on the UK TV series "Strictly Come Dancing".
Jennifer and Stephen married in 2001. They adjudicate, lecture and teach all over the world. When they are in London, they teach at the JJ Dance Studio in Beckenham.
In their spare time, Stephen and Jennifer love gardening and golf. Stephen can play to a 12 handicap on a good day and Jennifer to a 21 handicap. They have a passion for all animals, but especially dogs. They often walk friends' and neighbours' dogs, as they spend too much time travelling to have one of their own.
